The Small Maldives Island Co is going all out this Christmas as they redefine the word ‘festive’ in all three luxury resorts; Amilla Fushi, Finolhu and Huvafen Fushi. The Christmas spirit will bring holiday wishes to life, with celebratory experiences and mind-blowing feasts to enjoy with your family and friends. Even Santa is taking it to another level on one of the islands, as he makes his entrance, ditching his usual ride for jet-skis with his elves, jingling all the way.
First, lets talk about Amilla Fushi – there’s so much happening, we don’t know where to start! Who can say no to more than three weeks of unlimited fun, as the daring ‘Amilla Tribe’ descend on the island from December 19 2018, to January 10, 2019. Dance to the beat of the drums as the sun sets over the endless horizon, while fire performers turn up the heat with jaw-dropping displays. ‘Mouth-gasmic’ surprises are also a certainty as Chef Hiro Nakamura charts an incredible journey of flavourful Japanese cuisine to Amilla’s signature overwater restaurant, Feeling Koi. It will showcase a selection of artfully crafted sushi, nigiri and sashimi by the water’s edge while DJ Ricky plays creative lively tunes. There’ll also be lip smacking themed nights at the chilled-out foodie hub Baazaar featuring live entertainment by resident duo Thru Colors & Musica En Corde. Plus, enchanting dining experiences in the magical Mystique Garden and so much more. Even the Australian football hero, Tom Cahill, is making an appearance offering a four-day training camp for inspiring young footballers aged five to eight and nine to sixteen years to perfect their skills through this elite coaching programme on the island’s very own full-sized pitch.
As for the New Year countdown, guests will be treated to a world-class spectacle from the UK-based pyro performance group, The Fuel Girls, known all over the world for their death-defying shows. What’s more, there will be music from Irish singer, songwriter and lead singer of B*witched, Edele Lynch.
We’ve still got two other resorts to talk about so, moving on! Remember the Santa-on-jet-ski appearance we talked about at the beginning? Yeah, that’s happening in none other than the grooviest little island in the Indian Ocean, Finolhu. The island will offer a rocking calendar of festive celebrations set against a stunning backdrop. The Christmas season will also be an epicure’s dream, starting on December 19 with a daily rotation of sweet treats and goodies, and unreal spreads at the Baa Baa Beach Diner. World class entertainment will kick off Finolhu’s year-end bonanza, as guests are invited to bust a move with music from the Gypsy Queens, a French five-piece pop band, and The Riffs, with sounds rich in various genres and sung in different languages (even in Dhivehi – the local Maldivian language). Music is never in short supply in this ‘funky town’ as they even have fantastically talented local DJ performances; DJ Tappu, with his musical background, having grown up in a musically-savvy family, he picks apart and infuses together all the pieces of music that he loves, and DJ Simon, who went from listening to his dad’s playlist as a kid to hosting parties in school to being the drummer of the famous local band ‘1984’ and eventually journeying his way to becoming a much-sort-after full-time DJ for about five years. and not to forget, dazzling performances by Area 51 acrobats.
With famous fireworks, fire dances and a cracking band on the beach, Finolhu just knows how to turn it on for New Year’s Eve. You can dine at one of the best restaurant in the island or chill at the bar, whatever you do, don’t miss the countdown at 1OAK Beach Club.
And finally, we have Huvafen Fushi. Guests are invited to come dressed in flapper or looking rather dapper as Huvafen Fushi heads back to the roaring 20s, transforming itself into a tropical take on the oh-so-glamorous Gatsby Mansion. A world created to amaze, amuse and entertain, creating scenes of glittering dresses and jazz music. Guests are invited to become part of Jay Gatsby’s inner circle, dancing the night away at Cotton Club, the resort’s exclusive ‘pop down’ underground Jazz club. Create everlasting memories while enjoying tantalising cocktails and live music. Chef Hiro will be serving sensational Omakase tasting menus at the resort’s signature overwater restaurant Feeling Koi from December 22 to 26, 2018, followed by special Champagne-fuelled evenings hosted by ambassadors from Krug (December 27, 2018) and Louis Roederer (December 29, 2018). Welcoming the arrival of 2019 in unforgettable fashion, Huvafen Fushi celebrates with a breath-taking firework display and late night music at Forno from Def Note.
There you have it; three amazing destinations choose from. Decisions, decisions.
