Luxury resort, Amilla Fushi has wrapped up a special four-day football camp with Australian soccer star and Everton legend Tim Cahill as well as the English Premier League coach Robbie Anderson yesterday.
The four-day event ‘AMILLA 417’ commenced on the 26th of this month with children from the resort, as well as the children from Finolhu Island and neighboring local island Dharavandhoo. According to the resort around 50 children have participated in this four-day camp.
“We invited children from Dharavandhoo School, and I think that creates a great opportunity to integrate the local community in what we do at Amilla Fushi” Jean Sangaraille, Resort Manager at Amilla Fushi said.
“This year we have also invited the parents to be a part of the event as well and at the end of the day we have the dads participating in the game and I believe this makes it more exciting because parents also have the opportunity to join the game” he added.
At the closing ceremony, Amilla Fushi presented gold medals to all the kids participated, and we must say the kids looked really happy!
Food and drinks were available to the spectators and the guests for their enjoyment as well.
“The most important thing about our camps is to kids this small to have FUN. Teaching them fundamentals and bring out their confidence. My message to the kids like everyone else is to follow their dreams. When you live in a beautiful country like this, you got to give them hope.” The Soccer Legend, Tim Cahill said.
“Moreover the talent of local players is really good. The last time I came here after the world cup, I was lucky enough to play a game with the local staff and I was really impressed with that. But more importantly here, the local talent of the young kids is amazing because they got great techniques and skills.”
Earlier this year, the resort hosted an Easter football camp for their young guests, Finolhu Island and with children from the local island, Eydhafushi. This camp was conducted by Amilla Fushi’s operator The Small Maldives Island Co in partnership with Sydney-based football academy Futboltec.
