Sun Resorts has become a world of the Global Hotel Alliance making Kanuhura Maldives a part of the world's largest alliance's exclusive Ultratravel Collection.

The company headquartered in Mauritius owns five resorts in two destinations; Maldives and Mauritius.

“Sun Resorts has a strong reputation among regular travellers to the Indian Ocean, but joining the alliance will enable us to spread that reputation to other markets more efficiently than we can do on our own. We will instantly gain access to a huge customer base of international travellers in markets such as China, India and North America, which are difficult and expensive for us to access as a small independent brand, but which are generating growing demand into the Indian Ocean region,” David Anderson, CEO of Sun Resorts, was quoted in a statement, as saying.

GHA is the world’s largest alliance of independent hotel brands, bringing together more than 30 brands with over 550 hotels in 75 countries. GHA uses a shared technology platform to drive incremental revenues and create cost savings for its member brands. GHA’s award-winning loyalty programme, DISCOVERY, provides 14 million members exclusive opportunities to immerse themselves in local culture wherever they travel.

Founded in 2004 with the goal of helping independent, upscale and luxury hotel brands to compete with the global majors, whilst retaining their individuality, this year GHA celebrates its 15th anniversary.

GHA CEO Chris Hartley noted that Sun Resorts’ properties provide exactly the type of experience that are sought by the 14 million customers of GHA’s award-winning, multi-brand loyalty programme, DISCOVERY.

“Over half of our member stays in new brands are now for leisure, often in luxury resort destinations and at premium rates. Mauritius and the Maldives are hugely desirable destinations for our customers, and we know that Sun Resorts will be a popular addition to the alliance,” Hartley said.

The integration of Sun Resorts into the alliance will be completed by Q3 2019. Two of Sun Resorts properties, namely Long Beach in Mauritius and Kanuhura in the Maldives, will become part of Ultratravel Collection, an exclusive portfolio of the alliance’s most luxurious properties.

Located at the heart of Lhaviyani atoll, one of the most spectacular Maldives atolls, Kanuhura is considered one of the most iconic barefoot beach resorts in the Indian Ocean. Part of the Mauritius-based hotel and leisure group Sun Resorts, Kanuhura hosted its first guest in 1999.

A USD42 million reimagining of the resort in 2016 has positioned it for the latest trend travellers have identified as Gypset; part gypsy in their drive for freedom and jetset, reflected in their wealth and craving for luxury living. The gypset muse of Kanuhura is Erin Wasson, famous top model and face representant of Maybelline.

The new rooms are luxury villas and suites with unusual elegance and furnished with natural materials with a touch of refinement and modernism. Whether you stay on the sunrise or sunset side of the island, you will be overwhelmed by the breathtaking view of the sea. The water villas have a private terrace with private access to the lagoon.

With its eight restaurants and three bars, Kanuhura will make you discover various cuisines from all over the world such as Italy, Brazil and the Maldives. The chef also provides interactive cookery demonstrations. Those looking for tranquility and well-being will be able to visit Kokaa, the wellness and spa centre for a unique sensual experience uplifting body and mind.
