Tourism Symposium to be Held in Addu City Next Year to Boost Local Opportunities

A tourism symposium will be held in Addu City next year, focusing on enhancing local tourism opportunities and creating job pathways for residents, according to Faisal, who spoke at the recent launch of Addu’s tourism brand at the Canary Islands Resort. Faisal highlighted the importance of raising public awareness on the benefits of tourism, particularly for younger generations, and posed the question of whether to expand tourism development in Addu or prioritize branding and enhancing connectivity.

Organized by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the symposium will bring together key tourism stakeholders, including tour operators, airlines, and online booking platforms from India and China. The event aims to foster a collaborative networking space to drive Addu’s tourism sector forward. “It would be very difficult if we didn’t work like this,” Faisal said. “I believe this initiative will be crucial if everyone participates in a networking session.”

Currently, Addu City offers 1,100 tourist beds, but there is potential for growth. Faisal noted that KASA Holdings, a stakeholder in the operation of Gan International Airport, plans to further develop tourism infrastructure in the region, including a proposed 130-bed resort in Gami. The government is working to support these development efforts as part of its commitment to expanding Addu’s tourism sector.Organized by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the symposium will bring together key tourism stakeholders, including tour operators, airlines, and online booking platforms from India and China.
