This year’s Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) has contributed MVR 680,850 to NGOs in their work to help protect children!
Similar to previous years, this year’s edition of DMRR, the largest annual run held in the Maldives, was also dedicated towards the social cause of child protection, providing a platform for NGOs to raise funds and increase awareness on the initiative to help protect children., As such. DMRR partnered with 12 NGOs working in the areas of protecting and supporting children, from helping to promote inclusion, protecting children from abuse to raising awareness on the wellbeing of children.
At the time of registration, participants were given the opportunity to nominate an NGO of their choice and a special grant of MVR 200,000 from Dhiraagu was distributed amongst the top five nominated NGOs. In addition to the special grant, MVR 100 from the proceeds of each runner registration and the proceeds from special bib number sales were also awarded to all 12 partner NGOs, adding up to a total of MVR 480,850. In total, MVR 680,850 was contributed to this year’s DMRR partner NGOs, to help them kickstart their programmes, especially to initiate their plans in the important work they do to help protect children across the country.
The top five nominated NGOs each received MVR 80,071. They are:
1- Cancer Society of Maldives
2- Maldives Autism Association
3- ARC – Advocating the Rights of Children
4- Maldives Thalassaemia Society (MTS)
5- Child Abuse Prevention Society (CAPS)
Other endorsed partner NGOs of DMRR 2024 each received MVR 40,071. They are:

Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives (BVISM)
Care Society
Moms Aid
Society for Health Education (SHE)
Maldives Association of Persons with Disabilities (MAPD)
Diabetes Society of Maldives
Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is the first and only international run held in the Maldives listed in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running calendar with a World Athletics-certified race route.
Dhiraagu has now announced the date for next year’s Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race as 24 October 2025.
