President Muizzu Calls on UN Security Council to End Arms Sales to Israel

In a bold call to action, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu urged the UN Security Council to halt arms sales to Israel, emphasizing that peace cannot be achieved while “weapons of war” continue to flow into conflict zones. Speaking at the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit, Dr. Muizzu condemned the ongoing violence in Palestine, which has escalated as arms and support continue to pour into Israel from powerful nations. He expressed frustration over the international community’s failure to address the humanitarian crisis and its silence in the face of Palestinian suffering.

“Each weapon sold fuels this genocide further,” he stated, underscoring that true peace is incompatible with continued arms sales. Dr. Muizzu’s call aligns with the Maldives’ longstanding stance against the occupation and the systematic violence faced by Palestinians. He criticized the veto power within the UN Security Council, which has effectively blocked meaningful action, allowing war crimes to go unpunished.

Reiterating his call for decisive action, Dr. Muizzu urged all nations to reflect on their role in sustaining or ending this cycle of violence. The Maldives stands firm in its call for an arms embargo on Israel, aiming to pressure the international community into a collective stance that prioritizes peace and justice for Palestinians, with hope for a stable and secure future in the region.
