The internal election voting for the People’s National Congress (PNC) has begun. Voting started at 10:00 AM. The party has scheduled voting to continue until 2:00 PM. In Malé, voting is taking place at Dharubaaruge, while in Hulhumalé, voting is being conducted at Rehendhi School.
The election is being held across 90 islands in Malé and the atolls, with a total of 143 ballot boxes placed, including 53 ballot boxes in Malé.
According to PNC, 667 candidates are competing for 1,984 positions in this election. Another 130 positions have been filled without election as only one candidate applied for each position. Across the 88 islands where the election is being held in Malé and the atolls, 34,904 members are eligible to vote.
The PNC election was initially scheduled for October 19, but was postponed to today due to the public holiday on the 10th of this month for Republic Day.
This is the largest internal election that PNC has held to date.
