North Ari Atoll, Maldives – December 8, 2024: President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced a series of key initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare and development of island communities during his meeting with the residents of Mathiveri Island.
One of the main requests from the Women’s Development Committees (WDC) was to convert their allowances into salaries and extend additional benefits such as Ramadan allowances and maternity leave. Addressing the matter, President Muizzu emphasized that this change requires legal amendments, adding that the legislative work is already underway.
“We understand the importance of these benefits and the need to restructure WDC allowances into proper salaries. I assure you that the necessary changes are now in progress,” President Muizzu stated.
Reaffirming his commitment to nationwide development, the President underscored that high priority will be given to the progress of villages across all key sectors, including education, health, social well-being, and economic growth.
In a significant infrastructure announcement, President Muizzu revealed plans to ensure that all inhabited islands in the Maldives are equipped with Bank of Maldives (BML) ATMs by the end of 2025.
“By 2025, ATMs will be established in every island that currently lacks one. These ATMs will ensure uninterrupted financial access for the people year-round,” President Muizzu announced.
Further, as part of his administration’s commitment to providing equitable services to all citizens, President Muizzu pledged to introduce dollar withdrawal facilities in island communities.
“I intend to establish dollar ATMs in these islands as part of our policy to provide equal financial services across the nation,” he said.
The President’s visit reflects his administration’s proactive approach to addressing community concerns while advancing key development initiatives that directly impact the lives of the Maldivian people.
