Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has appointed Mr. Mohamed Bassam Adam as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking a significant leadership transition for the Association.
Mr. Bassam brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the Maldivian tourism and hospitality sector. His professional background spans leadership roles with travel agencies, airlines, and destination marketing initiatives. Known for his strategic vision and operational expertise, he has been a strong advocate for strengthening the country’s tourism sector and its global positioning.

The MATATO Board confirmed that Mr. Bassam’s appointment followed a comprehensive selection process, during which several candidates were evaluated. The Board unanimously endorsed his appointment, citing his extensive industry knowledge, leadership credentials, and dedication to promoting the interests of travel agents and tour operators in the Maldives.
As MATATO approaches its 20th anniversary in 2026, the Association is preparing to celebrate two decades of advocacy and service to the industry. With Mr. Bassam at the helm, MATATO aims to enhance its role as a key voice for the sector, create greater opportunities for members, and expand its initiatives locally and internationally.

Established as a non-governmental organization, MATATO has played a pioneering role in the Maldives’ tourism sector. The Association is best known for initiatives such as the Maldives Travel Awards and the Maldives Travel Conference, platforms that have showcased the country’s industry achievements and strengthened its global visibility.
