The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is doubling down on efforts to uphold the significance of the Indian tourism market, recognizing its pivotal role in the nation’s tourism landscape. Despite facing a decline in Indian tourist arrivals this year, MMPRC Managing Director Fathmath Thaufeeq remains optimistic, affirming the country’s commitment to maintaining the numbers.

In an exclusive interview, Fathmath Thaufeeq emphasized the crucial nature of the Indian market and unveiled a series of proactive measures aimed at revitalizing tourist inflows. Special promotions tailored to the low season are already underway, with plans for further targeted campaigns to bolster interest.

Collaborative efforts with airlines are also underway, with promotional activities tailored specifically for the Indian market. Moreover, strategic initiatives are being rolled out to amplify Maldives’ appeal in other key markets, such as Sri Lanka, enhancing overall tourist footfall.

Despite recent diplomatic tensions impacting arrivals from India, Fatima remains confident in achieving the government’s ambitious target of two million tourists this year. With over 25 percent of the target already achieved, there’s a strong belief in surpassing expectations.
