The Minister for Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal urges all Maldivian youth to direct their investments towards the tourism industry as he believes that this is the most opportune moment to do so. “It could even be a 10 or 5 room local guesthouse”, he said while speaking on a broadcast at the Public Service Media outlet. According to the Minister, if investors properly utilize the loan products that come out of the new development bank, payoffs 10 or 15 years down the line will be considerable.

The field of tourism currently injects about 4.5 billion into the State Budget. According to the Minister, current targets are aimed at increasing that income to 6 billion by 2027. He stressed that it would take strong collaboration of the Ministry with industry stakeholders to achieve this target.
The Minister also noted that he believes very strongly based on experience that tourist arrivals within the next five years will increase to 3 or 4 million annually. He indicated that diversification efforts and new tourism products are expected to bring in major foreign investments and expressed that he sees the future of Maldivian tourism “very brightly”.
