The Maldives continues to be a top destination for travelers worldwide, with an impressive influx of visitors this year. According to the Ministry of Tourism, a remarkable 92,292 Chinese tourists have already visited the island paradise as of last Monday. This figure represents a significant portion of the total 830,665 tourists who have arrived in the Maldives so far in 2024, making Chinese visitors account for 11.1 percent of the overall tourist population.
The overall tourist arrivals in the Maldives have seen a healthy increase of 11.8 percent compared to the same period last year. Following China, Russia has emerged as the second-largest source of tourists, contributing 84,055 visitors. Close behind, the United Kingdom has sent 79,507 tourists, while Italy and Germany have also shown strong numbers with 73,214 and 65,198 visitors, respectively.
Interestingly, India, which was the largest tourist market for the Maldives last year, has experienced a shift, with 46,970 Indian tourists visiting so far this year. This change in the Indian tourist market highlights the dynamic and evolving nature of global travel trends.
