At a press conference held by the Tourism Ministry, the Minister revealed that resorts in the Maldives are already paying chefs salaries of up to $35,000, indicating that the culinary field is an area that needs to be further developed. He said special emphasis will be placed on increasing the participation of Maldivians in this sector.

The Minister said he will soon consult with the PSM (Public Service Media) to generate interest in bringing the “MasterChef” show to the Maldives. He noted that some resort operators have already expressed their willingness to support this initiative.

“MasterChef” is a popular reality cooking show that originated in the UK in 1990 and features chefs from around the world. The Minister stated that hosting such a show would help develop professional chefs and also increase the interest of youth in the culinary field.

The Minister also said that while many Maldivians currently work in ordinary jobs at resorts, efforts will be made to increase the number of Maldivians in higher-paying roles such as chefs, general managers, sales directors, and operations managers. This will be done by providing specialized training to Maldivian resort staff.
