Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives commemorates Maldivian Heritage with Music, Dance, and Aroma

Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives celebrates the island nation’s rich Maldivian history with specifically tailored experiences for guests focused on learning and discovery.

Tourists are welcomed to the “Spirit of the Maldives” Tuesday monthly occasion, that includes a spectacular banquet supper featuring many of the cultural favorites. Native Maldivian food is characterized by recognizable spices and aromas found in Indian and Arabic cuisine. It places a special focus on easily available foods including freshly caught tuna fish, chili, and coconut. The event also features a dynamic artistic performance of dancing, singing, rhythms, and the talented show by the Kandooma Bodu Beru dance group, who use a beat drumming, beautiful motion and passionate singing to convey stories about the islands’ history and mythology, capturing the attention of the audience with their skill. Adults pay US $69++, while children under the age of 12 are free.

For those that desire to delve more thoroughly into the culinary arts customs and history, “Maldivian Masterclasses” are offered twice per week (3 pm to 4 pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays) and provide an intimate meal preparation expertise in which those involved can acquire the hidden secrets of the flavors and combinations of foods created by the resort’s outstanding chefs. The event concludes with a session of tasting and cuisines for recreating the meals yourself for sharing with loved ones. The lessons are restricted to eight persons. Adults only. US $80 per person.

“Our cultural showcase is a terrific opportunity for visitors to learn about the Maldives while staying with us. Whether they learn to play Bodu Beru, savor local delicacies, or enjoy a captivating performance, the experiences provide an unforgettable journey into the heart of island culture and make memories to last a lifetime,” said Mark Eletr, General Manager, Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives.

“It makes a big difference to the guest experience to have an international staff where foreign visitors can minimize language barriers, and we’re proud to do that for our key markets. But what guests remark on the most is how lovely it is to see Maldivian people working at Kandooma and sharing their stories and bright smiles. Our Maldivian team members have a special warmth about them, and when guests feel it too, it gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling.  It’s very special.” he added.

Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives boldly seeks to recruit a crew made up of over forty percent native Maldivians. The resort’s dedication to sustainability includes supporting local communities and economies, as well as promoting tradition. Mark Eletr says the team’s goal is for guests to depart with exceptional experiences of their stay in the Maldives as well as a profound feeling of attachment from the events and activities featured, which will last beyond their visit.
