A key part of the resort’s sustainability initiatives is its Marine Lab, the first of its kind in the Maldives. The lab focuses on marine conservation projects, including coral restoration, reef monitoring, and regular reef clean-ups, all aimed at protecting the local ecosystem. Guests can also participate in these efforts through activities like the Citizen Science Snorkel, where they help monitor fish populations and contribute to marine research.
Beyond marine conservation, Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru engages in local community efforts, conducting clean-up campaigns on nearby islands to reduce plastic waste and promote environmental awareness. The resort has also reduced plastic use, adopted sustainable construction techniques, and implemented energy-saving measures like the monthly Full Moon Lights-out initiative, which not only reduces energy consumption but also offers guests stunning stargazing experiences. Waste management and recycling are essential to the resort’s daily operations, providing an eco-friendly experience for all visitors.
