President Muizzu Strengthens Maldives-China Relations in Meeting with Wang Yi at UNGA 79

President His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with His Excellency Wang Yi, China’s Head of Delegation to the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the sidelines of the UN session in New York on Monday. The meeting reaffirmed the strong ties between the Maldives and China, focusing on deepening cooperation and mutual development.

During the discussions, President Muizzu highlighted the Maldives’ priority in maintaining and enhancing its strategic partnership with China. He expressed gratitude for China’s pivotal role in the development of the Maldives’ tourism sector, which has been a cornerstone of the nation’s economy. The President also discussed ongoing projects and agreements, emphasizing their importance in driving growth and sustainability in the Maldives.

In response, Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting the Maldives in all spheres of cooperation.
