BBAM Apologizes, Reaffirms Commitment to Promote Maldives on Global Stage

The Bodybuilding Association of Maldives (BBAM) has issued a formal apology to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the Maldivian public concerning the 15th World Bodybuilding Competition held in Addu, which included a mixed-gender event.

In a statement, BBAM emphasized that the competition represented a significant opportunity for the Maldives, gained through extensive efforts and after competing with numerous countries. The association highlighted that hosting the event domestically was essential to avoid financial and reputational losses for Maldivian sports associations and to maintain the country’s strong standing in the global sports arena.

The event was hosted at Canareef Resort Maldives, a facility designated for tourists, allowing competitors to participate in an environment suited to their lifestyle, away from the public. BBAM further explained that its intention in organizing the competition was to elevate the Maldives’ international profile in sports and to showcase the nation as a capable and attractive host for global events, reinforcing the government’s efforts to bolster economic growth and tourism.

Responding to the public’s concerns, BBAM has assured that such incidents will not recur in the future, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding national values while pursuing opportunities that promote the Maldives internationally.
