DELIBERATIONS AIMED AT BOOSTING TURKISH AIRLINES FLIGHTS TO THE MALDIVES

Türkiye has held discussions to increase the frequency of Turkish Airlines flights to the Maldives. The discussions were held during a courtesy call paid by the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

At the courtesy call, the Turkish Minister extended a warm welcome to President Muizzu to Türkiye and expressed his appreciation for the President’s acceptance of the invitation to visit the country. Speaking at the meeting, President Muizzu conveyed his profound gratitude to the Minister for his participation in the Presidential Inauguration that took place earlier this month. He emphasized the close bilateral relations that exist between the two nations, reflecting their shared history and mutual respect.

During the conversation, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye reaffirmed the country’s commitment to fostering a strong relationship and collaboration with the Maldives in areas of shared interest. Both the President and the Minister underscored the significance of augmenting the frequency of Turkish Airlines flights to the Maldives with the aim of stimulating the tourism sector. They also discussed the potential for increased investments by Turkish companies in the Maldivian tourism industry.

Furthermore, they explored potential avenues for enhanced cooperation in sectors such as sustainable energy production. They also exchanged views on the government’s development agenda, demonstrating a mutual commitment to progress and prosperity.

This year marks 44 years of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and the Maldives, established on May 28, 1979. President Dr Muizzu is currently on an official visit to Türkiye at the invitation of the Turkish President. First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level Maldivian delegation comprising senior government officials are accompanying the President on the visit.
