Former Construction Minister Mohamed Mauroof Jameel has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), signaling efforts to enhance accountability within the organization.
The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) confirmed the appointment on Sunday following the resignation of former Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed amid corruption allegations. Fazul’s resignation marks a significant development as the authorities investigate irregularities in housing allocations.
Mauroof, a respected architect and former Minister of Construction and Public Infrastructure during President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration, brings decades of experience and a strong reputation for integrity. His appointment comes as HDC faces scrutiny over the alleged misuse of housing schemes and public resources.
Mauroof’s immediate priorities will include addressing public concerns, ensuring fairness in housing distribution, and implementing measures to prevent future mismanagement.
Public sentiment has been optimistic, with many hopeful that the leadership change will lead to positive reforms at HDC and improved housing solutions for Maldivians.
