In a swift and unexpected leadership transition, the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) has temporarily appointed Deputy Managing Director Bassam to lead the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). This decision follows a series of significant departures within the corporation, starting with the resignation of Chairperson Aisha Noorain Janah on Tuesday night. Less than 24 hours later, Managing Director Fathimath Taufeeq was dismissed from her role, and board member Rafil Mohammed also stepped down.
Bassam steps into this interim role with over 20 years of experience in the tourism industry, including expertise in ticketing, hotel bookings, and strategic consultancy. His advanced diploma in Tourism Management and active involvement with the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) have equipped him with the necessary skills to navigate MMPRC through this period of upheaval.
His track record includes elevating operational standards and enhancing the market presence of various travel companies, both locally and internationally. Furthermore, his role as a representative for prestigious publications like Asian Diver Magazine and Petit Futé has helped promote the Maldives as a premier diving and travel destination.
This leadership shift aims to leverage Bassam’s extensive industry experience to ensure MMPRC’s continued growth and stability during this transitional phase. As the corporation navigates these changes, Bassam’s strategic vision and deep understanding of the tourism sector are expected to be invaluable in maintaining MMPRC’s prominence in the global market.
