The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced the temporary closure of the parking area at Velana International Airport (VIA) starting Thursday, July 17, 2025, as part of preparations for the grand opening of the airport’s new terminal on July 26, 2025.
The closure is intended to facilitate final logistical and operational arrangements for the state-of-the-art terminal, which is expected to significantly enhance the airport’s capacity and passenger experience. MACL has advised travelers and visitors to make alternative arrangements for parking and airport access during this period.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the parking area,” said a MACL spokesperson. “This step is necessary to ensure a smooth transition to the new terminal, which will offer world-class facilities and elevate the travel experience for all passengers.”

The new terminal, a key milestone in the ongoing expansion of VIA, is designed to accommodate the growing number of tourists and visitors to the Maldives, further solidifying the country’s position as a premier global tourism destination.
MACL has urged passengers to plan their journeys in advance and check the airport’s official website or contact customer service for updates on alternative transportation options. The company assures the public that normal parking operations will resume as soon as possible following the terminal’s opening.
