In a landmark move demonstrating President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to balanced national development, the Maldivian government has unveiled plans to establish seven strategic urban centers across the country. The Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development made this groundbreaking announcement today, marking a significant step toward decentralized development.
The carefully selected locations for these urban centers include R. Ungoofaaru, B. Eydhafushi, Lh. Naifaru, ADh. Mahibadhoo, F. Nilandhoo, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, and L. Fonadhoo. The plan includes the establishment of two Integrated Development Zones – one in the northern region encompassing three atolls, and another in the southern region covering four atolls, complementing the existing Male’ Urban Region.
