Maldives Hits One Million Tourist Arrivals as Government Aims for 2.3 Million by Year-End

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has announced that the Maldives has officially surpassed one million tourist arrivals for the year, marking a significant milestone in the country’s tourism recovery and growth efforts. As of June 10, a total of 1,016,377 tourists have visited the Maldives—a 9.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

According to official tourism statistics, the daily average for June stands at 5,002 arrivals, slightly lower than the overall daily average of 6,313 for the year. The highest number of arrivals was recorded in January, followed by April and March, highlighting the seasonal nature of the tourism industry. Visitor numbers began to dip in May and June as the low season commenced.

Accommodation Preferences

Maldives’ world-renowned resort sector remains the top choice for international visitors, with 71.9 percent of tourists staying in resorts. Guesthouses, mainly located in inhabited islands, accounted for 22.8 percent, while hotels and safari vessels attracted 2.8 percent and 2.4 percent of tourists respectively. Other accommodation types made up the remaining 0.1 percent.

Leading Tourist Markets

China has maintained its position as the top source market in 2025, followed by Russia, which has overtaken the United Kingdom, now ranked third. Germany and Italy round out the top five, having exchanged rankings since last year.

Government Targets and Promotion

The Government celebrated the milestone with renewed efforts to boost international marketing campaigns in priority markets. The Ministry has set an ambitious target of 2.3 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year—more than double the current figure. To support this, authorities are enhancing air connectivity, expanding airport capacity, and promoting Maldives as a year-round destination.

Most Visited Resort in 2025

Among the many luxury properties, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island has emerged as one of the most visited resorts so far in 2025, attracting high numbers of tourists with its unique underwater villa experience, world-class dining, and top-tier service.

As the country moves into the second half of the year, tourism officials remain optimistic that strategic campaigns and improved infrastructure will help achieve the 2.3 million arrival goal, further cementing the Maldives’ position as a leading global destination.
