Maldives Introduces Free 90-Day On-Arrival Tourist Visas for Sri Lankan Citizens

In a significant move to enhance regional tourism and deepen ties with Sri Lanka, the Maldivian government has announced that Sri Lankan citizens traveling to the Maldives for tourism purposes will now receive free 90-day on-arrival visas. The policy, effective immediately, aims to attract more Sri Lankan visitors to the Maldives’ iconic beaches, luxury resorts, and vibrant cultural offerings.

Previously, Sri Lankan citizens were granted a 30-day on-arrival visa, subject to certain fees. The new 90-day free visa policy is anticipated to encourage extended stays, supporting local businesses, resorts, and the expanding homestay sector. This announcement comes as the Maldives celebrates a record 2.05 million tourist arrivals in 2024, with plans to further diversify its tourism markets.

Sri Lankan tourists can now immerse themselves in the Maldives’ stunning marine biodiversity, sustainable tourism initiatives, and authentic cultural experiences without visa-related barriers. The government hopes this policy will foster reciprocal tourism opportunities and enhance regional cooperation.
