The Maldives has welcomed 1.7 million tourists so far in 2024, marking a significant milestone for the island nation as it strives to surpass two million arrivals by the end of the year. According to the Ministry of Tourism’s latest statistics, the Maldives saw 1.69 million arrivals by early November, with an average of more than 5,000 tourists arriving daily—an increase of 9.5% from the same period last year.

As of November 5, the Maldives received 29,304 tourists compared to 26,988 for the same time frame in 2023. China has emerged as the leading source market, contributing 241,523 visitors, followed by Russia with 189,100 tourists, and the United Kingdom with 145,774. Germany, Italy, and India also ranked high, with 129,259, 116,195, and 103,400 tourists, respectively.
Currently, the Maldives operates 167 resorts, accommodating 41,595 beds. Additionally, 14 hotels, 895 guesthouses, and 154 safari vessels are operational, supporting the influx of visitors. The Ministry of Tourism and related authorities continue to work towards boosting both tourist arrivals and the length of stay, reinforcing the Maldives’ position as a top global travel destination.
