Maldives Tourism Increases in 2025: Over 587,000 Visitors Arrive by March 31

The Maldives continues to solidify its status as a global tourism hotspot, welcoming an impressive 587,000 tourists by March 31, 2025, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. This marks a robust 5.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 556,000 visitors had arrived, signaling a strong start to a year poised for record-breaking numbers.

The surge in arrivals is driven by strategic partnerships and a renewed focus on diverse markets. Following a stellar 2024 with over 2 million visitors, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) has set an ambitious target of 2.2 million tourists for 2025. The first quarter’s performance suggests this goal is well within reach, with daily arrivals averaging 7,200 visitors. China remains the top source market, contributing over 70,000 tourists so far, followed closely by Russia and the United Kingdom, each surpassing 60,000 arrivals.

This year, high-profile collaborations with Liverpool FC and Mumbai Indians have boosted the Maldives’ appeal, particularly among sports enthusiasts in Europe and India. The Liverpool FC partnership, unveiled earlier this month, is expected to draw over 100,000 additional visitors, while the Mumbai Indians tie-up aims to attract 300,000 Indian tourists by year-end. Enhanced flight connectivity from cities like Kolkata and Pune, alongside sustainable tourism initiatives, further fuels this growth.

Popular destinations like Maafushi Island, Veligandu Island, and Hanifaru Bay continue to captivate visitors with their natural beauty and eco-friendly offerings. Meanwhile, the capital, Malé, thrives as a cultural hub. As the Maldives blends luxury with sustainability, 2025 promises to be a landmark year for its tourism industry, with economic projections estimating $5 billion in receipts, reinforcing its position as the “Sunny Side of Life.”
