The Maldives has officially welcomed over 700,000 tourists so far this year, reaffirming the island nation’s continued popularity as a world-class travel destination.
According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, total tourist arrivals reached 702,341 as of April 20, 2025. This marks a significant increase compared to the same period last year and sets a positive tone for the nation’s tourism industry as it heads into the second quarter.
Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal expressed his optimism over the figures, stating, “Reaching this milestone before the end of April is a strong indicator that we are on track to meet — and possibly exceed — our target of 2 million visitors in 2025. The government’s strategic initiatives, combined with global marketing efforts and public-private partnerships, are paying off.”

The top source markets continue to include Russia, India, China, the United Kingdom, and Germany, with new emerging markets showing growth due to enhanced connectivity and promotional campaigns.
The government, under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has prioritized tourism development through infrastructure expansion, increased flight connectivity, and diversification of tourism products, including cultural tourism and community-based experiences.
The Maldives currently boasts more than 170 resorts, over 900 guesthouses, and dozens of liveaboards, offering diverse experiences for travelers seeking luxury, adventure, and sustainability.
Officials remain confident that 2025 will be a record-breaking year for the tourism sector, further strengthening its role as the backbone of the Maldivian economy.
