The Maldives continues to shine as a premier tourist destination, with a 5.8 percent increase in tourist arrivals recorded so far this year. According to the Ministry of Tourism, a total of 687,916 tourists visited the Maldives as of April 8, marking a notable rise compared to the 650,404 arrivals during the same period last year.
The first eight days of April alone witnessed 55,498 tourist arrivals — a remarkable 19.6 percent increase from the 46,400 arrivals recorded in the same period last year, underscoring the Maldives’ growing appeal among global travellers.
China has emerged as the top source market this year with 77,840 arrivals, followed closely by the United Kingdom with 74,336 tourists and Russia with 72,713. Other major markets include Italy, Germany, India, France, the United States, Switzerland, and Poland.

The latest data also highlights tourism preferences, with 69.7 percent of visitors (479,491 tourists) choosing to stay at luxury resorts. Guesthouses accounted for 24.8 percent of arrivals (170,662 tourists), while 20,148 stayed in hotels, 17,149 aboard safari vessels, and 466 in other accommodation facilities.
Currently, the Maldives boasts a vibrant hospitality sector with 175 resorts, 842 guesthouses, 156 safari vessels, and 15 hotels in operation, reflecting the nation’s robust capacity to cater to diverse travel preferences.
With these encouraging numbers, the Maldives remains firmly on track to achieve its tourism targets for the year, reinforcing its reputation as one of the world’s most sought-after tropical getaways.
