For the fourth time in a row the Maldives once again claimed the World’s Leading Destination award at the World Travel Awards event held at Dubai’s iconic Burj Al Arab on the 1st of December 2023 after competing with 17 other destinations which includes, Dubai itself, Indonesia, Spain and Vietnam.
This is an award that recognizes a destination’s excellence and appeal.
According to MMPRC (Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Commission), one of the primary Maldivian marketers, this consistent achievement indicates that the Maldives is the most popular destination in the globe. MMPRC also got the World Travel Awards’ ‘Leading Tourist Board award’ for the second time.
The Maldives was also nominated for awards including “World’s Leading Beach Destination,” “World’s Leading Dive Destination,” “World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination,” and “World’s Leading Island Destination” in addition to these accomplishments. The winners of this award event, which started in 1993, are determined by votes cast by industry professionals.
348 promotional events were held by MMPRC throughout the course of the year.
The Maldivian government has set a target of hosting 1.8 million tourists by the end of 2023, with over 1.6 million tourists having come thus far this year.
