NHGAM Strengthens Local Tourism with Visit to AA. Ukulhas

The National Hotels and Guesthouse Association of Maldives (NHGAM) has successfully concluded a pivotal visit to AA. Ukulhas, where they collaborated with the AA. Ukulhas Council and local guesthouse owners to boost efforts in promoting local tourism.

NHGAM, an NGO advocating for the rights of Maldivian hotels and guesthouses, has also been advancing international marketing initiatives. Last December, the association conducted a tourism roadshow in Azerbaijan and Georgia, promoting Maldivian guesthouses to global audiences.

During the visit, NHGAM’s executive board engaged in productive discussions with the AA. Ukulhas Council, which culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership aims to enhance the marketing of AA. Ukulhas as a premier local tourism destination.

The team also visited guesthouses on the island, addressing concerns and challenges faced by owners. They introduced NHGAM’s membership tiers—Gold, Silver, and Proud—with the majority opting for Gold membership, highlighting their commitment to actively supporting the association’s initiatives.

“This visit is the start of a broader effort to connect directly with guesthouse owners across the Maldives,” said NHGAM’s President.

NHGAM plans to replicate such outreach in other islands, ensuring the growth and sustainability of local tourism while advocating for the interests of guesthouse businesses nationwide.
