Malé, Maldives – President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Tariq Ibrahim as the Minister of Tourism and Environment following the merger of the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy with the Ministry of Tourism.
The appointment was formalized in a ceremony held this afternoon at the President’s Office, where Tariq Ibrahim took the oath of office before Chief Justice Honorable Ahmed Muthasim Adnan. President Muizzu then handed over the official letter of appointment.
Following the ceremony, President Muizzu met with the new minister to discuss the government’s vision for the combined ministry. He emphasized the importance of balancing environmental conservation with tourism development, highlighting the need for policies that promote sustainability in the country’s largest economic sector.
The merger of the two ministries reflects the administration’s strategy to integrate environmental policies with tourism to enhance efficiency and ensure long-term economic and environmental sustainability.
