President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to Deliver Second Presidential Address at Parliament Opening

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is set to deliver the Presidential Address at the opening ceremony of Parliament for the year. This marks his second presidential address since assuming office.

As mandated by Article 84 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, the President must deliver a statement at the commencement of each parliamentary year, outlining the state of the nation and highlighting government policies and strategies to address national challenges.

The inaugural session of Parliament is scheduled for 9 AM tomorrow, with the President’s address being the sole agenda item. The session will be attended by senior government officials, Chief Justices, ambassadors of foreign countries, and other distinguished guests at the Parliament House. Upon arrival, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed will be received by the Speaker of Parliament and his spouse.

President Muizzu’s second presidential address is expected to outline key government policies for national development. His first address emphasized safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and initiating economic recovery. In that speech, he set forth ambitious targets to revitalize the country’s economy, many of which have already been achieved. This year’s address is anticipated to address pressing public concerns and set forth the administration’s strategic priorities for the year ahead.

In keeping with tradition, the government has declared tomorrow a public holiday to mark the occasion of the presidential address.

Parliament is fully prepared to receive the President and commence the first session of the year, setting the stage for another year of legislative deliberations and national progress.
