President Muizzu Begins Three-Day Visit to North Maalhosmadulu Atoll

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu departed Malé on Tuesday morning for a three-day official visit to North Maalhosmadulu Atoll. The visit is part of the President’s ongoing commitment to engage directly with local communities, councils, and institutions to address developmental needs and foster collaboration.

During the visit, President Muizzu will tour ten islands, including An’golhitheemu, Hulhudhuffaaru, Innamaadhoo, Kinolhas, Maakurathu, Maduvvari, Fainu, Rasgetheemu, Rasmaadhoo, and Un’goofaaru. This initiative aligns with his Administration’s pledge to enhance connectivity and improve public services nationwide.

Key Highlights of the Visit

  1. Developmental Engagements:
    President Muizzu is scheduled to hold meetings with Atoll and Island Councils, Women’s Development Committees, and senior officials from local institutions. These meetings aim to identify the unique developmental needs of each island and prioritize sustainable solutions.
  2. Inauguration of Projects:
    • Banking Services: The President will inaugurate the establishment of ATM services on several islands, fulfilling his Administration’s commitment to providing accessible banking services to all inhabited islands.
    • Government Facilities: He will lay the foundation for new council premises and inaugurate services for National Identity Cards (NID) and passports.
  3. Community Interaction:
    On his arrival in Vaadhoo, President Muizzu received a warm welcome from the community. He met with the Island Council, Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and institutional leaders to discuss key concerns, ongoing projects, and development priorities. The meeting, held at the Vaadhoo Council Secretariat, emphasized collaboration for sustainable growth.
  4. BML ATM Expansion:
    President Muizzu participated in the signing ceremony for the establishment of a Bank of Maldives ATM on Vaadhoo. This initiative is part of a broader plan to ensure all inhabited islands have ATM and banking services, strengthening the nation’s financial infrastructure.

Presidential Pledge for Engagement

The visit underscores President Muizzu’s 2024 pledge to engage directly with councils and communities across all atolls, islands, and cities. By fostering open dialogue and prioritizing community-specific projects, the Administration aims to bridge gaps in infrastructure and public services.

Accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials, the President’s tour is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
