President Muizzu Issues Strong Warning Against Corruption in Government Companies

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has issued a firm and clear warning to the heads of government-owned companies, stating that immediate action will be taken against any official found facilitating or committing acts of corruption. The President’s decisive stance comes amid ongoing controversies regarding land allocation schemes.

In a message sent to a WhatsApp group comprising CEOs and managing directors of government-owned companies, President Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption. The President emphasized his resolve to act without hesitation, saying, “If anyone does anything illegal or unlawful or allows corruption to occur in any form, I will take appropriate and immediate action.”

He underscored his administration’s commitment to eradicating corruption, declaring, “We will not tolerate corruption. Zero tolerance will be implemented in the true sense of the word.”

The authenticity of the message was confirmed by a managing director from the group, highlighting the President’s proactive approach to addressing the pressing issue. This strong warning comes at a critical time, as the land allocation controversy is currently under investigation by the Police and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

As part of the inquiry, the ACC today suspended Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rashid and the company’s board, except for the recently appointed Chairman, Ahmed Naseef (DD). Additionally, IT Consultant Abdullah Shuhood, Chief Financial Officer Abdullah Faeed, Chief Business Officer and Head of Media Department Ahmed Yameen, and Real Estate Deputy Director Ahmed Ayman have also been suspended.

President Muizzu has consistently reiterated his stance against corruption since taking office, vowing to establish a transparent and accountable government. He has frequently stressed that his administration will not compromise on matters of integrity and accountability.

“I can assure you that our government will run without corruption. If anyone in our government is proven to be involved in such acts, we will take legal action without hesitation,” President Muizzu stated in a recent public address.

The President’s firm position reflects his broader vision of reforming government systems, enhancing transparency, and ensuring public trust. By tackling corruption head-on, President Muizzu aims to build a government that is accountable, transparent, and committed to serving the Maldivian people without prejudice or favoritism.

The land dispute issue has garnered widespread attention, with both governmental and independent investigations underway. The President’s message serves as a clear directive to all officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability in their roles.
