The Maldives is experiencing a tourism surge like never before! In just the first five months of this year, a staggering 903,775 tourists have made their way to this tropical paradise, according to the Ministry of Tourism. This marks a phenomenal 12 percent increase compared to the same period last year when 821,248 tourists visited the country.
The numbers for June are already looking promising, with 11,530 tourists arriving in the first three days alone. Although slightly down from 12,005 during the same period last year, the overall trend shows an impressive upward trajectory.
Leading the pack, China has emerged as the top tourist source, sending 102,075 visitors so far this year. This is a remarkable leap from being the third-largest tourist group last year. Russia follows closely with 91,618 tourists, while the UK secures the third spot with 85,840 visitors. Interestingly, India, which dominated the list last year, now sits in sixth place with 54,576 tourists.
The Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has set an ambitious target of 2 million tourist arrivals for 2024. With 45.19% of this target already achieved before the year’s midpoint, the Maldives is well on its way to meeting, if not exceeding, this goal.
This record-breaking influx is a testament to the Maldives’ enduring appeal and the successful efforts of its tourism authorities. As the year progresses, the paradise islands continue to captivate the hearts of travelers worldwide, promising even more excitement and growth in the months to come.
