The Maldives is experiencing a significant rise in tourist arrivals this year, with data showing a 10.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023. As of 3 August 2024, the total number of visitors reached 1,202,579, surpassing last year’s figure of 1,091,322.

Tourist arrivals have been on an upward trend throughout 2024, with notable increases each month:
- January: 192,385 visitors, up by 11.5% from 2023
- February: 217,392 visitors, a 22.2% increase
- March: 194,227 visitors, up by 11.9%
- April: 168,366 visitors, showing a 2.4% growth
- May: 119,875 visitors, a slight decrease of 0.9%
- June: 123,284 visitors, a 2.4% increase
- July: 167,528 visitors, up by 15.0%
- August (1st-3rd): 19,522 visitors, a 21.3% rise
This steady growth is attributed to increased interest from key markets and the Maldives’ continued appeal as a luxury destination.

The top 10 markets contributing to tourist arrivals in 2024 include:
- China: 164,107 visitors (13.6% market share)
- Russia: 128,512 visitors (10.7%)
- United Kingdom: 106,161 visitors (8.8%)
- Italy: 87,823 visitors (7.3%)
- Germany: 87,608 visitors (7.3%)
- India: 72,637 visitors (6.0%)
- United States: 42,433 visitors (3.5%)
- France: 36,266 visitors (3.0%)
- Switzerland: 24,867 visitors (2.1%)
- Spain: 22,920 visitors (1.9%)
Accommodation Expansion
As of early August, the Maldives boasts 63,870 beds across 1,216 operational tourist facilities, including resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and safari vessels. The resort sector remains the largest, with 44,319 beds.
