Visit Maldives CEO and MD, Fathmath Thaufeeq says that although Maldives has built infrastructure to support the tourism industry, we are also focused on sustaining and protecting the environment through laws, regulations and guidelines enacted within the past 50 years.
It was during Friday’s episode of The CEO Edit, when Fathmath spoke with BBC’s Tanya Beckett and noted the importance of focusing on traditional and existing markets as well as potential markets.
Speaking of the dependency of Maldivian tourism industry on its natural resources she said said, “It’s a lot more than Sun, Sea and Sand. We have natural wetlands, we have local experiences from boutique hotels which the travelers can actually experience. We are very much focused on expanding the scope of the tourism industry”
She further added that the industry is currently implementing a data-centric marketing approach to reaching target tourist arrivals. As such, Fathmath also made note of the fact that tourism arrivals in the first four months of 2024 have surpassed more than 25 percent of the Target Tourist Arrivals for the entire year.
