WAMCO Expands Resort Waste Service, Aims to Cover 50% of Maldives Resorts in 2025

Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has announced a significant expansion of its resort waste management services, aiming to cover 50% of the resorts in the Maldives by the end of 2025. This initiative is part of the corporation’s broader strategy to enhance sustainable waste disposal practices across the country’s tourism sector.

WAMCO’s Resort Waste Service is designed to provide resorts with an efficient and environmentally responsible waste collection and disposal system. The initiative aligns with the Maldivian government’s commitment to strengthening environmental sustainability and improving waste management infrastructure.

According to WAMCO, the demand for professional waste management services has grown as resorts seek to adopt more eco-friendly waste disposal methods. The corporation has been actively expanding its operations, introducing improved logistical frameworks and investing in advanced waste processing technologies to meet the rising demand.

A WAMCO official highlighted that the corporation’s expansion plan includes deploying additional waste collection vessels, increasing operational capacity, and collaborating closely with resorts to implement best practices in waste segregation and recycling. The company also intends to integrate innovative solutions such as waste-to-energy conversion and enhanced recycling programs to reduce landfill dependency.

With the Maldives’ tourism sector playing a crucial role in the nation’s economy, efficient waste management is essential in maintaining the pristine natural beauty of the islands. By reaching 50% of the resorts in the country this year, WAMCO’s initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the Maldives’ environmental conservation efforts and ensure long-term sustainability.

WAMCO has urged all resorts that have not yet partnered with its waste management program to join the initiative, emphasizing that collective action is necessary to address the growing waste management challenges in the tourism industry.
