The Arrival

Why the Maldivian themed dinner and boduberu is a slice of community at Royal Island Resort & Spa

After a day soaking up the sun, sand and surf of the beautiful island with the stunning marine life located in Baa Atoll, all residents of Royal Island Resort & Spa tear themselves away from picturesque sunset views and cabana zen-zones at the pool, to head on down to dinner at beachside Makana Restaurant.

Stunning artifacts of Maldivian lacquer jars and the telltale Dhoni at the buffet aside, the Maldivian-themed dinner is at its origin, sourced from local islands and the colorful markets in Male’ City. An assortment of Hedhika (short eats) alongside Maldivian delicacies of fresh fish and a live station awaited the guests beside the restaurant’s salt water pool of marine life and coral.

Dinner Buffet was completed with a titillating excitement in the air. Most who entered dinner have already seen the promise of Boduberu tonight. While an excellent dinner was winding down, the Boli Bar overlooking a picture quesly lit pool saw men in the traditional black and red-lined Feyli set up the boduberu. What ensued can only be described as a slice of togetherness and community. Guests who had been merely smiling at each other on the way to breakfast, lunch and dinner were doing the Boduberu moves and laughing together with the performers. From the excitement of little kids to the bold moves of old couples celebrating 40 year anniversaries, the beats of Boduberu got to pretty-much everyone present. Those that were too shy to slide onto the dance floor had a wonderful time clapping and supporting on the sidelines. A night of community, connection and togetherness with some really good music and everyone hit the bed with wonderful memories.
